About me

Auryn Beorn @ about.me

I'm Auryn Beorn, a Second Life resident since 2009 (April 16th). I'm Black Tulip's store owner, a store specializing in scripts for designers and books about Blender and scripting, also selling mesh templates, animations for designers and, more recently, photography poses and props.

I've been a Second Life teacher for almost five years, and I love creating in SL. My creating interests lean toward darkness and adult recreation, but I'm quite open to creating outside of this (and indeed, the majority of things I've created are neither dark nor adult in nature). My store is where I devote the majority of my inworld time. The rest of my inworld time, almost all of it, is for my partner.

My interests are even wider: human behaviour, mathematics, philosophy, writing, reading, science, the psychology of (self) deception and believing without evidence... and a lot more.

I make little to no separation between Second Life and the real world. This doesn't mean, though, that I will talk about everything in my real life with strangers. I'm quite private.

I cannot tell you that I'm a honest and loyal friend, because I'm human. I'm well aware of my flaws and of how difficult is telling what's right or wrong in a situation when I'm one of the involved people. That's as much honesty and loyalty as I can offer: the acknowledgment that I may fail at being honest and loyal.

I also like writing: opinion, short tales, and technical articles and tutorials related to creating in SL are my most treated topics. There's a bit (or a lot) of each in this blog: feel welcome to explore it. I've tried categorizing topics on pages: you can start by checking the tabs at the top of the blog.

I'm not afraid of change. I may be slow in adapting, but I feel that change is something we have to explore. If we find it useful, then we should embrace it. Fearing change is the quickest way of being left out, particularly in an ever changing world as SL.

Although quite private in SL, you can add me and get in touch with me in several social media services. I always try to interact, and in them, I tend to share jokes and participate on what you choose to share. You can find me over here:

I also have accounts in Avatar Social Network and Pinterest, but I rarely use those. You can look for me there too, though, if you so want.

Oh, and let's not forget this: I love cheese. I would sell my mother over this. Unfortunately, I already traded her for something else. Fortunately, I still have my father left.

(My sense of humor is awful. I know this too.)

In case you're interested, these are the tools I use to develop content for SL:

  • Linux (Debian), as Operating System
  • Blender, for mesh creation (modelling, some texturing, baking textures)
  • Avastar, for pose and animation creation (this is a Blender plugin)
  • GIMP, for graphics manipulation, textures and advertisements creation
  • Libre Office, as ofimatic suite (documents, my books, spreadsheets)
  • Kate, as text editor (scripting and others)
  • Filter Forge, for some base texture creation (under a Virtual Box console running a Windows XP operating system)
